Binary Numbers Chart

Every number from 0 to 255 in binary, with decimal and hex. Start with 0 to 15, which is all four place values 8, 4, 2 and 1 can make, then search the full chart or print 1 to 100 on a single page.

Updated

Binary numbers 0 to 15

Four bits count from 0 to 15. Each place is worth double the one on its right.

How to read the chart

  1. 01

    Find the number

Search the chart below for a decimal number, a hex value or a pattern of bits.

  2. 02

    Check the place values

    Under each 1, write its place value: 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2 or 1.

  3. 03

    Add them up

    13 is 1101: 8 + 4 + 1 = 13. The 0 in the 2s place adds nothing.

Binary numbers 0 to 255

Every value one byte can hold, written in 8 bits. Search for any number, binary or hex value.

How to count in binary

Counting in binary works like a car odometer with only 0 and 1 on each wheel. Add 1 to the rightmost digit. If it was 0, it becomes 1 and you are done. If it was 1, it rolls back to 0 and you carry 1 to the next place, which may roll over too.

So 0, 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 110, 111, 1000. Every time all the digits are 1, the next number gains a place: 111 (7) is followed by 1000 (8).

Frequently asked questions

What is 100 in binary?

100 is 1100100 in binary: 64 + 32 + 4. In 8 bits, it is 01100100.

How do you count in binary?

Add 1 to the rightmost digit. A 0 becomes 1; a 1 becomes 0 and carries 1 to the left. So the count goes 0, 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 110, 111, 1000.

What is the largest 8-bit number?

255, which is 11111111: all eight places switched on, 128 + 64 + 32 + 16 + 8 + 4 + 2 + 1. With 0, that makes 256 values in one byte.
