ASCII to Binary Converter

Type characters, or ASCII codes separated by spaces, and get the binary. The converter tells you which way it read your input.

ASCII to binary

Bits

Characters or codes

If your input is only numbers, like 72 105, the converter reads them as ASCII codes and writes each in binary. Anything else, like Hi, is read as characters and each one is looked up first. Both of those examples give 01001000 01101001.

Choose 8-bit for bytes as computers store them, or 7-bit for classic ASCII without the leading 0. Codes above 127 are not ASCII, so the converter skips them and says how many. For accented letters and emoji, use the text to binary converter, which writes UTF-8.

Example: ASCII to binary for "Hi"

Each character has an ASCII code, and each code is written as 8 bits.
