Binary to English Translator

Paste a binary message and this binary to English translator shows the text at once. If it comes out as symbols, it checks for a bit missing or added at the start and suggests a fix.

Decoding secret messages

Binary turns up on T-shirts, tattoos, escape room clues, puzzle hunts and birthday cards. Most of these messages use one byte per letter, so the translator above reads them as they are.

Copy the digits exactly, in order. Spaces between groups help, but a long run of 0s and 1s works too. If the message is on paper or a screen, the binary translator from image can read the digits from a photo.

  • Groups of 8 are standard text. Paste them as they are.
  • Groups of 7 are older ASCII. The translator reads those too.
  • Groups of 4, or very long groups, are probably numbers. Try the binary to decimal converter.

Why translation apps don't read binary

Binary isn't a language. It's a way to write numbers using only 0 and 1. Text becomes binary through a character code, usually ASCII or UTF-8, that gives each letter a number. Translation apps work between human languages, so they don't list binary at all.

To get English back, a tool has to split the bits into bytes, turn each byte into its number and look up the letter. That is what this translator does. To learn the steps yourself, see how to read binary.

Binary on a shirt or a screen?

Take a photo instead of typing every digit. The scanner reads the 0s and 1s in your browser, and you can fix any digit it misreads.

Frequently asked questions

Can Google Translate translate binary to English?

No. Google Translate works between human languages, and binary is a way of writing numbers, not a language. Paste your binary into the translator on this page instead. It's free and runs in your browser.

How do I decode a secret binary message?

Paste the 0s and 1s into the box above and the English appears under it. If the digits are in a picture, use the binary translator from image. If the result is symbols, look under it for Did you mean.

What if my binary message has a typo?

It depends on where the slip is. In one long string, a missing or extra bit shifts every byte after it, so the rest turns to symbols. If the slip is near the start, a shifted reading appears under Did you mean: press Use this to apply it. Otherwise, find where the text stops making sense and count the digits there. With spaces between bytes, only the group with 7 or 9 digits comes out wrong. A single flipped bit changes only one letter.

What does 01001000 01101001 say?

It says "Hi". `01001000` is 72, a capital H, and `01101001` is 105, a lowercase i.
